Ukrainian drone strike in Crimea illuminates sky after massive explosion

Russia’s defense ministry said on Friday, August 4, it had prevented a Ukrainian drone attack on a facility in Crimea overnight. Video circulating on social media on Friday showed air defenses firing into the night sky before an explosion in Feodosia, located on the eastern coast of the Crimean peninsula. Further footage circulating on the same date, said to be from Feodosia, showed a fireball followed by a loud bang. Car alarms are heard blaring following the explosion. Storyful has not independently verified this footage. The ministry said air defense shot down 10 unmanned aerial vehicles and three others were taken down by “electronic warfare.” “There were no casualties or damage as a result of the foiled terrorist attack,” the ministry statement said. On the same day, Ukrainian officials said they carried out a successful unmanned drone attack on a warship in the Russian port city of Novorossiysk.
