What The Public Wants! Reel 1 Of 4 (1933)

Reel 1. Very jazzy title sequence with musical notes and glittered letters. Wilfred Pickles is trying to find out what people want in the way of entertainment. He asks a man who is cleaning windows. Does he like Jazz Bands? No, he likes something with a tune to it. He likes Troise and his Mandoliers. Pickles writes it down in his notebook. We then see the band playing. C/Us of Troise and some of the musicians. One of the musicians sings and a woman at a window looking wistful is superimposed on the picture. He serenades her. The song is probably called “Romany“. Wilfred Pickles asks a woman in uniform who she likes. She likes the radio conjuror Sirdani. “Don’t be fright“ seems to be his catch phrase. He talks a lot in pidgin English. He gets someone up from the audience and does a “pick a card“ trick involving in large sword. The man throws the cards up in the air and Sirdani catches the two he has chosen on the sword. Sirdani shows how he can take of the man’s waistcoat without taking
