Bernadette - Sarasate “Zigeunerweisen“ (Gypsy Airs) for accordion.

The beautiful tapestry shown at the beginning of this video, was worked by and given to me by my grandmother as a Christmas present years ago. There are many interpretations of this piece both for violin and accordion and my interpretation relies entirely on emotion. What might have inspired Sarasate to compose this piece? I remember having the pleasure, when I was a teenager, to play with a Hungarian gypsy violinist, who may once have been the subject in the tapestry. She played with such a rich tone and raw emotion, (not to mention brilliant technique) and she had a magnetic, charismatic style. Like the lady pictured, I do not even know her name. Nevertheless, she is a dynamic muse. I aim to imitate the violin with my Beltuna accordion, which has a very rich and full tone. I hope you enjoy it.
