VISION OF SALOME - Archibald Joyce - New Century Orchestra/Sidney Torch - FDH-004

When the Recorded Music Library of publisher Francis, Day & Hunter was set up in 1946 they called on respected conductor/composer Sidney Torch to oversee the first batch of recordings, much like Chappell & Co had done with Charles Williams 4 years earlier. The 4th release comprised two waltzes composed by London born Archibald Joyce (1873-1963), being ’Songe D’Automme’ on Side A, backed with ’Vision Of Salome’ on Side B. After success with his own dance band Joyce turned to composing and turned out an impressive amount of work, many of his compositions waltzes. It led to him being dibbed The English Waltz King. ’Vision of Salome’, his impression of the infamous Biblical dancer (often pictured holding the head of John The Baptist) dates from around 1909. Sidney Torch is conducting the New Century Orchestra (FDH-004) (CTP14286)
