In Kula Maui area, at least two homes were destroyed in the fire that swept through some 1,100 acres, and about 80 people were evacuated from 40 homes. Mayor of the Big Island said that around 400 homes had been evacuated in four communities in the northern part of the island. The island of Oahu, where Honolulu is located, has also experienced power outages, broken power lines and traffic problems. Thick smoke billows across the slopes of the Haleakala volcano on the island of Maui.
