La Russe - 1950 - Country Dance - Quadrille

This 1950 video is from a video called “Wake Up and Dance (1950)” from the DVD “Here’s a Health to the Barley Mow”. See for details of all the wonderful traditional material on this double DVD. The video is copyright English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) and is used with permisssion from the EFDSS. For full details of the dance’s history and evolution please see Please note: The music is not synchronised with the dancing and it is not the original La Russe tune; it is a medley of traditional tunes, presumably added during the editting. I asked various groups if they knew who the performers were. Thanks to those who provided these comments: “It looks like the old Sunday Club dancers, latterly known as London Folk.“ “Some Beaux of London City Morris Men there in Forest of Dean jackets. Could be Bob Parker who later ran London Folk.“ “The dancer in the waistcoat with the hobby horse emblem on the back is Nibs Matthews. Musicians include Helen Kennedy on concertina and Elsie (Ruby) Avril on fiddle.“
