Following a bitter primary election cycle that highlighted a divide within the Republican voting base, former U.S. president Donald Trump travelled to Washington D.C., to meet with House and Senate Republicans behind closed doors on Thursday. Seeking to build unity and loyalty, the visit took place just steps from the U.S. Capitol and marks the first time the presumptive Republican presidential nominee has returned here since the Jan. 6, 2021 attack.
