Formado junto a Bruno Tommaso y con el gran trompetista Enrico Rava, Paolo Fresu, virtuoso de la trompeta y el fliscorno, es no solo uno de los mejores y más reconocidos músicos del jazz italiano, sino, sin más, uno de los grandes del jazz europeo, con más de 350 discos grabados, de los cuales más de ochenta como líder. Premiado como mejor músico europeo en 1996 y ganador del “Django d’Or” como mejor músico de jazz europeo, de entre sus innumerables proyectos y formaciones, nos encantan, en especial, su trío Mare Nostrum, junto a Richard Galliano y Jan Lundgren, y sobre todo su maravilloso quinteto, que llevaba años sin reunirse y que por fin lo hará en Jazz San Javier, como una de las grandes joyas de este su 25 aniversario.
