Big Joe Williams - ’Highway 49’ live 1976

Big Joe Williams filmed outside his caravan in Crawford, Mississippi on the BBC series ’the Blues’ presented by the British Blues legend Alexis Korner and first aired in 1979. Big Joe’s playing his song Highway 49 later covered by the likes of Howlin Wolf, George Thorogood among countless others. Big Joe’s first recording of the song dates back to February 25th, 1935 it was released in July 1935. I don’t make anything colourising and putting these videos together so please support the channel with the tip link here if you can its greatly appreciated! “When I saw him playing at Mike Bloomfield’s “blues night“ at the Fickle Pickle, Williams was playing an electric nine-string guitar through a small ramshackle amp with a pie plate nailed to it and a beer can dangling against that. When he played, everything rattled but Big Joe himself.
