Queen of Pad Thai in Berlin’s Hidden Gem | Street Food Icons

We meet Ms. Te Gu De (aka Pim) who introduces us to Berlin’s Thai Park and shows us how she prepares arguably the best Pad Thai in Germany. Since the 1990s, Thai women in Berlin have been meeting in Preußen Park in Berlin’s Wilmersdorf to eat together, play cards and share Thai delicacies. Local Berliners became curious over the years and wanted to try the exotic food, and one of the largest Asian street food markets of the time was born. Pim has been a part of the market since she was a little girl and, as a young migrant, it quickly became an important point of contact for her. She soon started selling baked prawns and mango lassi. In the beginning, it was hard to fight for a place in the market, but Pim always believed in herself and her cooking skills. Her self-confidence grew, and she learned traditional Thai cuisine from various chefs. Her stand got bigger, she hired a team and developed her own recipes.
