LIVE: Facebook whistleblower to testify before British lawmakers

Sophie Zhang, a former data scientist at Facebook, is set to testify in UK Parliament in London on Monday, October 18 during a meeting on the Online Safety Bill, a proposed bill threatening significant fines on tech giants if they fail to act against harmful or illegal content. Damian Collins, the Chairman of the UK Parliament Joint Committee on the Draft Online Safety Bill, said the lawmakers would question Zhang “about her work as a data scientist for the Facebook Site Integrity fake engagement team, dealing with bot accounts, often operated by government-backed agencies in countries such as Russia.“ Sophie Zhang says she was fired by Facebook after highlighting its alleged failure to combat election interference in a number of countries.
