There are different methods of Vedic chanting, such as Samhita, Pada, Krama, Jata, and Ghana. Among them, Ghana is the most advanced and complex method, which requires a high level of proficiency. Ghana means “dense“ or “thick“, and it refers to the way the syllables of the mantras are repeated in a certain pattern, creating a dense and intricate sound.
Rudra Ghana Patha is a specific type of Ghana chanting that focuses on the Rudram, one of the most important sections of the Krishna Yajurveda. The Rudram is a collection of mantras that praise and invoke Rudra, a form of Lord Shiva which consists of two parts: Namakam and Chamakam.
Ghana Patha is the advanced form of chanting, where each syllable is repeated in a specific order, creating a complex pattern. For example, if the mantra is “namah नमः (1) Somaya सोमाय (2) cha च(3)“, then the Ghana Patha would be (1221 123 321 123), “नमस्सोमाय सोमाय नमो नमस्सोमाय च च सोमाय नमो नमस्सोमाय च“.
