Please enjoy! “Children“ is an instrumental composition by Italian composer Roberto Concina, professionally known as Robert Miles, Swiss born, Italian record producer, musician, composer, and DJ. First released in January of 1995, the song originally didn’t make the charts. After some work with a small number of others in the euro dance scene it was released as the lead single on Miles’ Dreamland album in November 1995. At this point the song became Miles’ most successful single, being certified Gold and Platinum in several countries and reaching number one in more than 12 countries. This song received instant praise and acclaim by many, due to its unique ‘dream house piano’ sound, which employs an instantly recognizable and hypnotic piano melody, synth bass, strings/pads with a lot of reverb and delay, and a four-on-the-floor drum beat. Another reason this song was so popular is the reason behind its creation. Miles cited two influences to the inspiration of the track: one being photos of children affected by the Yugoslav War that his father had brought back from a humanitarian mission in the region. The other reason being that, at the time, there was a trend of club goers being involved in car accidents. Miles had the idea to play more calming music at the end of his set in order to bring attendees down a bit and help them avoid crashes on their way home.
