Wavespace

Wavespace is an immersive artwork by American water and light artist Lachlan Turczan. The experience is part sound bath and part light show. Audience members enter into a dark room and lie down beneath a circular screen hanging from the ceiling. Beneath the screen, a mirrored bowl filled with water begins to vibrate with low oscillating tones. A pendant light that hangs from ceiling reflects off the water, projecting ever-shifting liquid patterns overhead onto the disc. These projections fill the audience’ visual field with cymatic patterns that rise and fall as the the tones change frequency. The experience is similar to cloud-gazing, where viewer’s imaginations run free in wordless visual stimulus.
