Defending against China’s DF-21D ’carrier-killer’ missile

Admiral Jonathan Greenert, the chief of US naval operations, told reporters on Friday there are a number of methods the US Navy would use to defend against China’s Dong Feng (East Wind) 21D carrier-killer missile, which the US believes has reached “initial operating capability,“ well before the missile got close to a carrier group. The DF-21D, the world’s first ballistic anti-ship missile, carries a conventional warhead and is fired from land-based launchers. China says the DF-21D has a range of 1,700 miles
