It occurs very frequently in spoken English, about once in every three vowel sounds, in words such as “the”, the first syllable of “about”, and the second syllable of “sofa”. One of the most difficult aspects of the schwa sound is that in order to pronounce it correctly, you have to almost ignore the normal sound of the vowel you are looking at and make the schwa sound instead.
