Another close language to Finnish (Meänkieli) INFORMATION ON THE VIENA DIALECT This is in the Viena karelian dialect, closely related to Finnish while this is understadable by nearly 90%, the Viena karelian dialect is a smaller percentage of the whole Karelian language, despite being fully understandable by Finns (except for some Russian vocabulary, and some own words), it is still closer to Livvi, which is why its better to be called language. The Livvi dialect which is the largest dialect is no longer fully understandable. You can see Livvi karelian here: The reason viena is so understandable to Finnish people is years of mutual contact and Finns travelling to Viena Karelia, the majority of Karelian speakers though instead speak Livvi karelian which is more divergent from Finnish.
