Richard Torrez Jr. vs. Tyrrell Anthony Herndon Highlights | Boxing News Today

The 2020 Olympic Silver medalist for the U.S. maintained his perfect knockout-to-win ratio in a second-round stoppage of Tyrrell Anthony Herndon. Torrez floored Herndon one minute into the second round and followed up on the attack to force the end of the bout at 1:26 of that round atop an ESPN preliminary stream Saturday at Fort Bend Epicenter in Rosenberg, Texas. Torrez saw his career progress slowed when an injury forced him out of a planned March appearance and left him sidelined for six months. He returned with a first-round knockout of Willie Jake Jr. on an August 12 ESPN show in Glendale, Arizona and quickly secured a slot on Saturday’s show which marked his first career fight in Texas. Herndon had early designs about making a fight out of it but that quickly changed after tasting Torrez’s power. The San Antonio was forced to the ropes as Torrez used a series of jabs to set up a straight left hand down the middle. Another straight left hand set up the bout’s lone knockdown. The perfectly timed shot ignited a combination which drove Herndon (21-5, 14KOs) into the ropes and down to the canvas. The Texan beat the count but an ensuing barrage of power punches forced the stoppage while Herndon was on his feet but unable to defend himself. Torrez (7-0, 7KOs) has yet to go beyond the third round as a pro. He is now 3-0 (3KOs) on the year, with his actual time on the clock totaling less than ten minutes in that span.
