Asha Puthli: L’indiana [Full Album, Expanded Version] (1978)

Asha Puthli’s 4th album, L’indiana (The Indian) - and her final for CBS Records - was released early 1978 in an attempt to launch her as a disco singer with titles such as I’m Gonna Dance and Music Machine. The album was produced by Belgian producer Jean Van Loo with the rhythm tracks recorded in Brussels while Asha’s lead was recorded in the famous Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia with backing vocals by the Sweethearts of Sigma (Barbara Ingram, Carla Benson & Evette Benton). For its American release a year later, Dancin’ Dandy was dumped, and the three remaining tracks on side 1 were all remixed by DJ Richie Rivera. The album peaked at #6 in Italy but went fairly unnoticed elsewhere, but as everything else Puthli recorded it is well worth listening to. It was followed up by another disco album 1001 Nights Of Love in 1979 and two new wave albums in the early 80s. Her most recent album is Lost, released 2009.
