Newcastle United v Leeds, 19th August 1989, Division 2

Newcastle United welcome Leeds United to St James Park for their first 2nd Division match since Brighton & Hove Albion and Kevin Keegan’s final league game in 1984. With the ’United Supporters for Change’ boycotting the match and watching a re-run of Newcastle’s 1974 FA Cup Semi Final victory over Burnley in the nearby ’The Magpie’ club, they were to miss one of, if not the best debut a Newcastle player was to have. Attendance: 24,482
