History 2201: Late Roman Republic through beginning of Roman Empire

An expanded, corrected, and divided version of my Classical Archaeology video on the Roman Republic. This video discusses the Roman Republic from about 146 BCE to Octavian’s becoming emperor Caesar Augustus in 27 BCE. I should also note that Cicero’s 2nd Philippic Against Mark Antony was not officially presented as a speech. Instead, it was written and published as a pamphlet, although some scholars think that this speech was not published until after Cicero’s death. Either way, Cicero was one of the most skilled orators of all time, and his speeches and writings were highly critical of Mark Antony, leading to Antony’s troops killing him.
