“The Foggy Dew“ is an Irish Rebel song about the failed Easter Rising of 1916 when Irish republicans tried to overthrow British rule in Ireland and establish a sovereign Irish Republic. Although the uprising failed, it proved to be a major turning point in the history of the Irish nationalist movement with the majority of the Irish people now distancing themselves from the parliamentary Redmondites.
