A lockdown collaboration formed virtually in the Summer of 2021, ‘The Lightning Kids’ are singer-songwriter Emma Ballantine , guitarist/producer Darryn McHardie (aka Cinematix1993 ) and songwriter/producer Jonny Spalding . Described as the ‘Retrowave London Grammar’ & ‘Synthwave 2.0’, The Lightning Kids have strong Synthwave roots, however with undertones of British alternative bands like The Cure & The 1975, as well as nods to great Californian records by The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac. ‘Ride’ is the first single from The Lightning Kids debut album and takes listeners through a teenage dream of fast cars and amusement parks in 1980s California: sun-soaked days and endless nights lying underneath the stars.
