Pressure systems for blade production

The lithic archaeological record of the Chalcolithic and the end of the Neolithic period is sometimes characterised by the presence of particularly long and regular blades. French experimental archaeologist Jacques Pelegrin proposed two pressure system methods which could generate such blades: lever and crutch. In this video, the expert in lithic technology Miquel Guardiola (IPHES) recreates such methods on a Bergerac chert in order to generate a reference collection of pressure system blades for comparative purposes. This video was edited as part of the 13th International Symposium on Knappable Materials
