A Camisole Note (1921)

London? Possible shot in Pathe studio. c. 1921 Introductory intertitle reads: “Here’s a way of turning two of those nice new - but surplus - handkerchiefs to even more useful purpose than Adam thought about when he gave them.“ Various shots of a woman cutting and sewing handkerchiefs together. “A few stitches at the corners, an odd piece of ribbon for the straps and a little elastic, add security“ - M/S of woman sewing the straps on then holding the camisole up to the camera - it looks more like a bra than what we in the 2000s would call a camisole. M/S of a model fully clothed holding the brassiere in front of her body. Dissolve to a shot of her modelling her new underwear. “And even father wouldn’t recognise these ’hankies’.“ The model tweaks the straps a bit - she seems to be wearing the new bra over the top of another piece of underwear.
