Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month: A Conversation with Artist Rei Alvarez

In commemoration of Hispanic Heritage Month, please join us on Wednesday, September 25 at 20:00 MSK for a conversation with Puerto Rican visual artist, Rei Alvarez. Reinaldo Alvarez is a Puerto Rican visual artist known for his vibrant paintings, digital art, and intricate illustrations that draw inspiration from the rich cultural heritage and folklore of his homeland. Alvarez is self-taught, and started drawing and painting on his own at a very young age. He is known for his interpretative works of the Vejigante mask — a traditional symbolic figure from Puerto Rican folklore, who represent playful and mischievous spirits. He has exhibited between Virginia, NY, and Puerto Rico, and in 2026 one of Alvarez’s album artworks will be featured at the opening of the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Latino exhibit on Salsa music. Alvarez currently resides in Richmond, VA where he also works as a freelance designer, DJ, songwriter, and singer.
