Russian naval and air force units conduct large-scale drills in Arctic

Russia’s defence ministry released on Friday (August 11) footage of large-scale drills said to be taking place in the Arctic. The drills are expected to last for several days and involve over 8,000 personnel and dozens of pieces of military hardware units, including a submarine, warships and multiple aerial units, the ministry said in a statement. Russia sees its vast Arctic territory as a vital strategic interest and has been building up its military capabilities in the region for years, raising alarm bells in the West.
