I Saw Her Standing There (First Cover) - The Beatles - Full Instrumental Cover
Surprise!
Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays! I couldn’t tease the Gretsch and Rickenbacker without providing some rocking early Beatles content, right?
It’s amazing that I’ve recorded this song probably a dozen times since high school, but this is the first time with a Gretsch. I think I finally got it right!
Sullivan-era drumhead courtesy of Russ Lease. Another bit of trivia - John’s playing is gentler on the record than in live performances. It’s a little jarring to see the Rickenbacker played relatively softly on this, but it yields the accurate sound from the studio version. Maybe I’ll do a live version one day and let loose!
Major credit to Rob Taylor from those immortal “Beatles To-a-Tee“ videos for unearthing that buried John rhythm riff during George’s solo. Kudos, Rob!
I have one more early Beatles song before taking a trip to the Pepper era. More to come...
