LIVE: Protest in support of Palestine takes place in Paris despite ban from authorities

Demonstrators gather in Paris for a protest in support of Palestinians on Saturday, May 15, when Nakba Day is being marked. The annual event, known in Arabic as Al-Nakba (’the catastrophe’), commemorates the exodus of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homes after the formation of the State of Israel in 1948. This year it comes amid growing escalation between Israel and Palestinian militants. On Thursday, French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin asked the Paris police chief to ban Saturday’s demonstrations in connection with recent tensions in the Middle East, to avoid “disturbances to public order.“ NOTE: This event might not take place in the light of the ban of the Paris police.
