GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Capitals () | An Excellent Team Effort

The Penguins finally returned to playing games in the Eastern time zone against an old, familiar foe: the Washington Capitals. Danton Heinen’s eighth tally of the season put the Penguins up 1-0 in an otherwise scoreless opening period. Just over eight and a half minutes into the 2nd period, Brock McGinn banked a puck off of a Washington defenseman to give the Penguins a 2-0 lead. Then, Kasperi Kapanen capitalized on his opportunity on the top line with Guentzel out due to injury, putting the Penguins up 3-0. Sidney Crosby registered the primary assist on Kapanen’s tally, bringing his point streak to seven games (3G-9A). Kuznetsov finally gave the Capitals a goal in the 3rd period. With an extra attacker on the ice, Eller brought the Capitals to 3-2 with under three minutes remaining in regulation. When the Capitals resumed their attack, Tristan Jarry wrapped the puck hard around the boards to the neutral zone, where Sidney Crosby was able to collect the puck, stop, and spin it to Jeff Carter for an empty-net
