Cross Country Race Through Water (1914-1919)

Cross country race through water. Location of events unknown. Cross-country race for boys with a section of running through water— not just splashing through a puddle but fording a river with strong current; in chest-deep water. Shot of boys running toward river and camera (cam is across) and right into the water; adults stand huddled together on the bank watching — and wearing coats! The boys walk through the deep water hanging onto a rope tied across. Cool shot — CU side view of boys heading uphill through water; with a small waterfall gushing down at them; they are wearing shirts and trousers which are of course soaking wet. Next; back to original scene but with a lot more kids now crashing through the water. Then boys struggle to scramble over the top of the waterfall; and; still following the rope; wade on away to shore where a small crowd of spectators is gathered between the river and the woods. flood; children; teenagers; rites of passage.
