“Expedition of 1873” Ancient Ruins, Canyon De Chelly, Southwest [First Photos] by Timothy O’Sullivan

Howdy ya’ll. I’ve recently been diving into the work of Timothy H. O’Sullivan, who, besides his famous photography of the Civil War, was also invited to join multiple expeditions to the West and Southwest. Some of which involved O’Sullivan being the first to photograph a multitude of eventual National Monuments for the first time. I recently just uploaded a video with O’Sullivan’s crisp and clear photographs from the 1860’s during the Civl War. After the fame O’Sullivan garnered for being able to capture quality images in the most rugged of conditions, O’Sullivan was invited on the Expedition of 1873 into the Southwest Territories of America. What we will view today are the images from this expedition. I will include the titles provided on each image when relevant. This expedition was one of the first to venture into this part of The United States, and the first to bring a photographer - enjoy these epic images, including the first of The Canyon De Chelly!
