Iraq: Yazidi and Kurdish forces secure Sinjar after taking it from IS

Around 7,500 Yazidi and Iraqi Kurdish forces, known as ’Peshmerga,’ continued to secure Sinjar on Saturday after they retook the town on Friday morning. Sinjar lies in the Northern part of the country. The taking of the town is part of an offensive operation aimed at recapturing the area from the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) militant group.
