That means we need to agree on what they are, and each of us must be responsible for enforcing them. In a world where people are tortured, incarcerated and murdered for ethnic, religious and nationality, and where certain powers can eliminate foreigners at will and claim sovereignty over any territory that suits them, it is clear that these ideas are not enforced, and perhaps never will be. And yet, in the West, we believe them without question.
