Happy Talk (Lv 4 SSATB) Score Preview

Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley covered this quirky Rodgers and Hammerstein song from “South Pacific“ on their now legendary 1961 Capitol Records album together, and this arrangement borrows liberally from some of that recordings great features, including the cool intro, much of Nancy’s melody phrasing, and some of the hip reharmonized turnaround figures. The chart features some improv solo space followed by an interesting head-out that builds to a big finish including the vamp from the Wilson/Adderley recording. Attention to voice-leading (along with the SkyTracks Mixer and other rehearsal tracks) make this chart more accessible to groups than it might sound initially from the demo.
