The Paris fire service issued a warning to local residents instructing them on how to stay safe during the downpour, advising them to stay at home. Severe storms and flooding have been predicted across much of the south of France, where five Mediterranean departments have been declared an “orange“ alert level, the second highest. Paris was already hit by heavy storms , causing most of the French capital’s average monthly rainfall to fall in an hour and a half. The transport organization reported that several Paris metro stations, including Balard, were flooded. A month’s worth of precipitation fell within an hour. Hurricane Gerard, which left 100,000 homes without power and damaged road, rail and ferry routes from high winds and downed trees. Météo France has warned of increased winds and heavy rainfall in the southwest, as well as occasional snowfall over the Massif Central as Fien crosses the country from the southwest to the northeast.
