Now For The Second Test! (1932)

Full title reads: “Melbourne. Now for the Second Test! ’Jardine & Co’ are sweeping all before them ’down under’ - may the good work go on!“ Melbourne, Australia. English cricket captain Douglas Jardine speaks to camera. He says how nice it is to be in Melbourne. Jardine leads the England team out onto the Melbourne pitch - presumably England’s fearsome bowlers Harold Larwood and Bill Voce are among those walking out. Darling and O’Brian - Australian batsmen walk out onto the field. Footage of O’Brian batting against the left hander Voce. Oakley is the non-striker. Allan bowls to O’Brian. O’Brian hits out at the next ball and is out (we don’t see the catch). More footage of the match, we hear of Duckworth the wicket keeper. Alexander plays - the voiceover says ’as a batsman he is a good fast bowler’. Alexander is bowled out for a duck by Voce. N.B. This is the tour and these are the bowlers who feature in the Bodyline scandal. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ. EXPLORE OUR ONLINE C
