He had to work several odd jobs before succeeding as an actor. Two of his sons had difficult lives and this took its toll on him. Nevertheless, his life is an example of being able to pursue excellence in the face of tremendous strife.
While he began his career in theater, it was his film career that defined him. He entered the film industry in the 1940s, at the end of the Second World War. At this time, American audiences wanted to see a hero that reflected their values. Gregory Peck was the hero we were all looking for.
He exemplified these heroic characteristics in films such as Roman Holiday and To Kill a Mockingbird. He also acted in great Westerns including Guns of Navarone and How the West Was Won.
His acting is still studied today by aspiring actors. His acting career spawned 5 decades and even as he entered his eighties, he was still in demand to appear in major feature films. Today, there’s an award bearing his name given to those who made incredible achievements in cinema.
He passed away in 2003 but still remains in the minds and hearts of his fans, colleagues, and a new generation of actors.
