Every year I look forward to the arrival of October. The leaves are golden yellow, outside there are soft raindrops tapping on the roof of the house, the smell of burning firewood wafts from the chimneys, freshly baked apple and pumpkin pies are waiting to be eaten at the table. In the kitchen we work on the last preserves of the year and slowly prepare for a well-deserved rest.
