One of the most common audition requirements is playing over a blues. Music school auditions can be daunting and we rarely perform our best in these intense situations. Hopefully these tips can help to you feel slightly better that you have done yourself justice no matter which college you are auditioning for. Using Sonny Rollins’ “Tenor Madness“ as an example, we discuss the 12 bar blues, jazz blues, which pentatonic scales to use and how to modify them to get that bluesy sound, and some other methods of preparation.
