Israeli Missile Strike on Iran
This strike had been anticipated for some time and, according to Israeli leadership, was an act of retribution for an earlier Iranian missile strike on Israel.
Official Israeli reports claim missile and drone production facilities and other strategic sites were targeted. However, Iranian sources stated that some Israeli missiles landed in empty areas while the rest were intercepted.
It appears both sides may be lying. Likely, some targets were hit, but without causing serious damage.
This suggests that neither Israel nor Iran is interested in full-scale escalation. “Demonstrating force“ to reassure domestic audiences is one thing; full-scale war is quite another. Current events show that few countries today can afford major wars. Striking a weaker opponent is one thing; going to war with a near-peer large army is another.
