Immediately afterwards, they were forced to run for three hours. Then they fixed their heads with metal handles and drilled holes in them, leaving them unable to move for eight hours. They then inserted electrodes through holes in their skulls and drilled holes in their jaws, where the electrodes were also inserted. In this way, they wanted to unlearn sleep. If the cats screamed, the machine, which responded to the sound, put an ammonia solution in their mouths.
