2022 Land Rover Bowler Defender Rally Car Off-Road Driving | Bowler Defender Challenge

Off-road racing specialist Bowler launched a single-make rally series in 2013 built around the original Land Rover Defender. Called the Bowler Defender Challenge, it was a nurturing series to train promising drivers for Dakar rally and other rally raid style events, with an emphasis on keeping costs down. Land Rover has since acquired Bowler and launched a redesigned Defender. On Wednesday, the automaker announced a reboot of the Bowler Defender Challenge which uses the new Defender as a base. The series is open to 12 teams, each using a common Defender rally car prepared by Bowler. The rally car is based on the two-door Defender 90 fitted with the SUV’s turbocharged inline-4. The maximum power corresponds to the 296 horsepower of the road model. It may not seem like much, but we remind you that previous Bowler Defender Challenge rally cars were equipped with a 2.2 liter diesel with only 170 hp.
