Polar Bears Trying to Eat Research Equipment in the Beaufort Sea

Video by student Kathryn Purdon taken onboard the icebreaker CCGS Amundsen of three polar bears away from the ice and curious about our trace metal sampling system cable. The bears approached the ship when the equipment was in the water. The equipment was recovered undamaged and the ship moved off. The bears were not harmed or hurt during the encounter. The scientists all breathed a sigh of relief.
