End of MAD
End of us?
w/Mark Sleboda
Produced by Don DeBar
It’s been 78 years since the US government dropped a pair of atomic bombs on a pair of major cities in Japan, killing, with two explosions, nearly a half million people - mostly civilians - in mere seconds. As stockpiles of these were built, the fear of possible extinction gave rise to the strategy of deterrence - nuclear weapons use would guarantee an end to all combatants - and likely everyone else. So the term “MAD“ - or Mutually Assured Destruction - came into being. And it has served the world well.
Until now.
Don DeBar has more.
