Police officers playing drums on top of horses STORYLINE: The President of Chile Gabriel Boric oversaw a traditional military parade on Tuesday in honor of the country’s Independence Day celebrations in Santiago. Boric arrived in an open vehicle at O’Higgins Park, the capital’s center, to take part in the event which included a performance from the national Air Force aerobatic team during the military parade. An estimated 7,736 members of the armed forces and the police paraded under the watchful eye of the president, lawmakers, military authorities, and other spectators. Boric also took part in drinking the traditional “chicha“ in ox horn of “huasos.“ At various times, people in the crowd shouted insults against the president, and some could be seen holding banners and images with the face of Gen. Augusto Pinochet who led a brutal military dictatorship for almost two decades.
