Evelyn King ~ Love Come Down 1982 Disco Purrfection Version

This was Evelyn’s second #1 R&B hit, “I’m In Love“ from 1981 being the first. “Love Come Down“ spent five weeks in the pole position in 1982. Both songs were written by Kashif and produced by Morrie Brown. To broaden her appeal, executives at RCA took away the distinctive “Champagne“ moniker that her mother had given her as a baby and was made to sing in a higher register which gave her a more youthful sound. She had a mad disco hit in 1978 with “Shame“ and four albums later she finally arrived R&B. I love all three of those songs and got nostalgic, figured I could have some fun with “Love Come Down“....hope you like! Kashif wanted a different sound for Evelyn and came up with the carnival-like keyboards that actually make this song. You can feel the power in her voice near the very end of this track, where she goes down a register and just nails it. Still feeling nostalgic, gonna try my hand at “I’m In Love“ and see what happens.
