Surya Bonaly (FRA) - 1998 Nagano, Figure Skating, Ladies’ Free Skate

Nagano, JAPAN - 1998 Winter Games, Figure Skating, Ladies’ Free Skate - Surya Bonaly of France struggled with her jumps. She has not been able to consistently land the Lutz and flip jumps ever since she injured her Achilles tendon. Realizing she had nothing to loose, she threw in a back layout that she normally performs in exhibitions. The crowd applauded her for that move; the judges hit her hard on the scores. She would place 11th in the Free Skate and end up dropping from 6th to 10th Place overall.
