New Year’s 2023: Taiwan shoots fireworks off Taipei 101 skyscraper

To ring in the 2023 New Year, Taiwan’s iconic skyscraper Taipei 101 lit up with a dazzling, colourful fireworks display just after midnight on Jan. 1. Combining beams of light and lasers, all four sides of the skyscraper were lit up in a five-minute show. The countdown in central Taipei on Dec. 31 was the first large-scale celebration in two years since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the globe.
