Residence of the Rylski family in Baku

𝗣𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗛 𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗚𝗘 𝗜𝗡 𝗔𝗭𝗘𝗥𝗕𝗔𝗜𝗝𝗔𝗡 RESIDENCE OF THE RYLSKI FAMILY IN BAKU The building was built in 1912 for the Polish Rylski family, who were wealthy oil-producers. It was designed by the Polish architect Józef Płoszko, whose mastery of local architectural traditions are clearly reflected in this building’s oriental façade. In 1919 it became the residence of the first Polish Consulate in Baku, which was headed by Stefan Rylski. Today it houses the Union of Cooperatives. The building’s architect, a talented Pole Jozef Ploszko, worked in Baku for over 30 years until 1925, when he left for Warsaw in Poland. He was also the chief architect of Baku in 1907-1910.
